As part of their Drops of Youth collection, The Body Shop have formulated an innovative daily treatment, that protects the skin against pollution and harmful UVA and UVB rays that cause premature ageing. Developed with Thyme and Buddleia extracts it works to hydrate the skin, acting as a day to day moisturiser, to help keep skin healthy and appear more youthful. Since I live and work in a city environment, I have been using this product everyday to help protect my skin against pollutants in the air. The emulsion promises to target the first signs of fine lines and reduce tiredness whilst minimising pores.
It has a delightfully light consistency and soft floral scent, ingredients are vegan friendly and even better it has SPF 20!
I was recently introduced to online cosmetic brand Blank Canvas, with an opportunity to test out a selection of their award winning, high quality make up brushes. The brand has a unique ethos - the face is a "blank canvas" with endless possibilities - and have created a range of brushes for every aspect of makeup application. From base to contour, shadow to blush there's a brush suited to all your beauty needs. There's also a vegan collection for those looking for something a little more ethical.
Over the past month I have been trailing three brushes, each have a metallic gold handle and are made with synthetic, fibre bristles for soft, smooth application:
Targeted Contour brush - Developed for shaping, sculpting and giving dimension to the face. Suitable for using with both cream and powder products.
Flat Tapered Cheek brush - Can be used for the cheeks and contouring. Perfect for smaller areas of the face such as the under eyes for baking.
Buffer brush: My favourite of the three, this brush works wonders with foundation to create a flawless base.
Blank Canvas is an extremely affordable brand that is sure to change your make up routine for the better. Available as single brushes, sets and kits, you're sure to find something you'll love!
For years I'd often hear beauty gurus and bloggers alike raving about the Ben Nye Banana powder. I had always been curious to try it but was never sure whether to believe the hype - it's also not the easiest product to get your hands on!
Earlier this year, Makeup Revolution launched their very own Luxury Banana Powder, developed to give warmth to the face, colour correct pigmentation and to give a bright, mattified complexion. I have been using this everyday to set my make up by using the 'baking' technique, under the eyes between my brows and on my chin. The powder is finely milled and is extremely light weight on the skin and doesn't give a cakey appearance. I have been impressed with the results so far and have found the powder to be surprisingly durable. At just a fiver, this is definitely worth giving a try for a quick and easy, flawless finish to your everyday base.
It's been a while since I've tried a new mascara. It has always been the one cosmetic that I love to experiment with, whether I'm searching for length or added drama. Recently I got my hands on the new Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening mascara which claims to transform lashes with bodacious volume. With intense pigmentation, it has the formula to create definition with a subtle flutter.
On first impressions I was expecting a thicker applicator, needless to say I love that it is oversized and the small bristles comb through each lash. The consistency is quite thick, I wouldn't recommend using this mascara for the lower lashes as it is prone to clumping which does make application a little tedious. Overall, I would rate this mascara 6/10, it's practical for every day wear but it hasn't outperformed my favourites.
When it comes to make up application, I'm very particular with the brushes I use but I'm always keeping my eye out for new innovative ways to 'put my face on'. For the past month I have been using two new base brushes from the sustainable beauty brand So Eco, who have successfully developed a range of eco-friendly cosmetic brushes made from 100% ethically resourced materials.
The brush handles are made from bamboo and the bristles are formed from cruelty-free Taklon, even the product packaging is biodegradable! I had the pleasure of testing out the flat foundation brush and the stippling brush, which I have been using daily. I prefer to use the stippling brush to blend my foundation all over the face, buffing to evenly apply product. I like to use the foundation brush to pat concealer and powder on the under eye as it gives more precision and I especially love how the colour of the bristles have been chosen to help show you how much make up is on the brush head. So Eco is available in store at selected UK supermarkets and online at amazon.com
The Body Shop's White Musk fragrance is somewhat a nostalgic scent for me, it's a classic from the brand that I've known for years. Back with a refreshed new look the White Musk L'Eau de Toilette now has a new 100% vegan formula that is free from animal testing.
Blended with delicate floral and fresh fruit notes with a soft musk base note, it's a light and pleasant fragrance perfect for the transition into Spring. It doesn't sit heavy on the skin and is a lovely uplift throughout the day. It's also the perfect size to keep in your handbag to spritz on the go!
Lee Stafford is one of my go to high street hair brands, I adore the Argan oil range and now I've fallen in love with the Coco Loco collection, found in Boots stores. Here are my chosen favourites..
Lee Stafford Coco Loco Shampoo & Conditioner - £5.99 each
The perfect duo for keeping hair clean and soft, these two products are enriched with lauric acid to keep locks looking luscious for longer. The consistency isn't heavy on the hair and rinses out with ease, the shampoo doesn't lather as much as I'd hope but needless to say I love the results.
Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotion - £6.99
On towel dry hair I like to apply this product through the ends before drying and heat styling. The key ingredient is Coconut oil which helps to nourish and maintain moisture, leaving it soft and smooth. Hair appears sleeker and shinier instantly, protected against frizz.
Lee Stafford Coco Loco Coconut Dry Shampoo - £4.99
I use this in between washes to refresh the hair of oily roots. It is incredibly lightweight and doesn't leave unwanted powdery patches on the scalp. Best of all it has a pleasing coconut fragrance that lingers through the day.
Bee Good has fast become one of my favourite skincare brands! Whenever I've had a skin crisis, their products have always rescued and revived the condition and appearance of my complexion. They are the only premium skincare brand to use British beeswax, honey and propolis in their ranges, as well as natural, botanical ingredients. Each product purchased contributes to the sustainability of UK Bee farms to ensure our bees are happy in the care of educated keepers.
I'm extremely impressed with my daily Bee Good skin routine, it enables me to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate my skin instantly and I've noticed an vast improvement in my skin tone. I'd recommend this brand to anyone, especially those with sensitive or blemish prone skin.
REN is one of my go to's for skincare, so I was grateful to receive this trio of products which includes the Foaming Cleanser, Hot Cloth Cleanser and the Invisible Pores Detox mask. These are a great addition to my New Year beauty routine.
An adorable little bag for my everyday essentials, great for wearing on the weekend and on evenings out. It has gold detailing with an adjustable chain strap and compliments any outfit with it's classic design.
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow
Even though this was on my Christmas list, I never expected to actually receive it, it was a treat indeed. This beautiful duo gives my skin natural warmth and a glow that lasts all day, it looks so elegant in my make up bag and I hope it lasts me right through the year.
Topshop faux leather jacket
I wore my last leather jacket to death and seriously needed a replacement. This one from Topshop is super comfortable, I chose the next size up to it was a little over sized for layering. I'm looking forward to styling with this in 2017.
Topshop bomber jacket
I've wanted a bomber jacket for a while now and at last I came across the perfect one! This Topshop gem is lined with a soft faux fur, giving extra warmth on the coldest of days. It is a gorgeous burgundy colour wearable from Autumn through to the Spring.
The Body Shop never disappoints with it's endless selection of of skincare, I especially love the Vitamin E, Camomile and Tea tree oil ranges. I was highly impressed with the introduction of 'Drops of Youth' so of course I was keen to see what 'Drops of Light' had to offer.
I was given the Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel to trial, this product aims to brighten the skin to give a more healthy glow. On first use, I was amazed at how well it removed dry, dead skin in an instant - a life saver in the cold, winter months. Initially I loved how smooth it left my skin each time but unfortunately it has caused my skin to break out rather aggressively. I think this is the result of the peel lifting dirt and oils from every pore to the surface.
The treatment has a light, creamy consistency that's easy to rinse away. It's recommended to use 2-3 times per week, however I would suggest to use as a weekly treatment to avoid drying out the skin. It will be available for purchase in the New Year!
