New In: The Body Shop Beauty

*PR sample

With the A/W season in full swing, The Body Shop has introduced a generous selection of new lip liquid and eye colour stick shades. I was lucky enough to choose two products to try for myself to create make up looks for every day wear and to get party perfect.

My favourite of the two is the Matte Lip Liquid in shade 'Windsor Rose' which is a blushed nude and although it is darker than I expected this has been lovely to wear day to day. This shade compliments a 'no make up' make up look but also works wonders with a smokey eye for night wear. As this is a mattifying product, it does dry the lips a little so I would recommend to apply a balm beforehand. The colour is buildable to your preference and sits in place beautifully.

For the Eye Colour Stick I chose shade Siberian Quartz, which I imagined to be more of a rose gold but is in fact more like an amethyst purple. Needless to say it is gorgeous and brings out the colour of my eyes. Like the lip liquid, it's lovely partnered with a dramatic smokey eye and gives a touch of magic to the lids.

Other ways to use your make up brushes

I'm all about multi-purpose products and discovering new ways to use everyday items. Did you know there are more uses to your make up brushes other than putting on your face?

Using a flat foundation brush to apply a face mask takes away the hassle of getting product all over your hands, the sink and if you're anything like me the entire bathroom! It allows a smoother application to ensure you spread the mask evenly over the face so that none goes to waste. Once you're done, simply rinse the brush ready for next time!

I find self tanning such a tedious task especially when trying to get an even application all over my body. Generally I use a tan mitt for large areas of the body but for my face, neck, hands and feet I use a buffing brush to give a flawless finish. I find this really helps blend the product between my fingers and toes as well as spreading evenly over the ankles, collar bone and around the nose. It's also much more convenient as you can wash the brush as and when you need to, unlike a mitt which I often have to repurchase and replace.

Let me know if you have any other uses for make up brushes, I'd love to hear them!

Halloween at LUSH

(Left to right)
Lord of Misrule bath bomb - £3.95
Boo bath melt - £3.50
Pumpkin bath bomb - £3.95

Lush certainly knows how to celebrate Halloween and I have picked three frightfully cute products to enjoy over the spooky holiday. Every year I always pick up my favourite bath bomb, 'Lord of Misrule', which has a spell binding fragrance of patchouli and vanilla. Hidden within it's green exterior is a surprise of popping candy and purple bubbles. 'Boo' is a darling addition to the range which melts effortlessly into bath water leaving a soothing aroma of ginger oil and mimosa with a soft touch of rich cocoa butter. The last of my terror trio is the new 'Pumpkin' bath bomb, a vibrant orange ball of both sweet and spice with vanilla and cinnamon. This cheeky faced fellow is sure to bring you warmth and comfort on a cold, dark night!

Will you trick or treat at Lush this Halloween?

EverGlaze Extended Wear Nail Polish

*PR sample

The arrival of Autumn means a change of colour - for the nails that is! Now that we have transitioned into the colder months, these three shades of EverGlaze Extended Wear nail polish are just perfect for A/W. 'Taken For Pomegranate' is a deep shade of red with a hint of shimmer, perfectly festive for everyday wear but chic enough for a Christmas party. 'Fig-ure It Out' is a daringly dark purple that adds a bit of drama to the nails and finally, 'NY Slate Of Mind' is a grey tone with a blend of multi-colour specks of glitter sure to sparkle through the night.

All three polishes apply wonderfully and have fantastic pigmentation with one to two coats. They're durable in wear and also dry incredibly quickly. I'm already really impressed with EverGlaze and would love to explore the range further.

Lovisa 'Love' choker - £7.50

On a recent shopping trip I came acrossAustralian jewellery boutique, Lovisa which had a huge selection of accessories. There was everything from gold and silver collections to unique beaded staple pieces.Whilst browsing I absolutely fell in love with this gem stone choker and I just had to have it. It has a simple black band with gold detailing but what caught my attention the most was the white and black marble stone. It's comfortable to wear and completes any outfit, it's so versatile in that it can be worn with a slouchy jumper and jeans or dressed up with a LBD and heels.

Dove Purely Pampering Nourishing Lotion

Dove Purely Pampering Nourishing Lotion - £4.70*

Now the colder weather is drawing in, it's so important for me to keep my skin moisturised. In the Summer I like to use coconut oil for my body but with the arrival of Autumn, I wanted something more comforting. This Dove Purely Pampering Nourishing Lotion is wonderfully soft on the skin and smells absolutely divine. Enriched with magnolia and pistachio cream it's a dream to apply, especially after a hot bath at the end of a long day. It does have a slightly sticky texture which I didn't expect but it does absorb well into the skin. This lotion is perfect for a self pamper session especially when you just want to relax and unwind.

The Body Shop Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation

*PR sample

The Body Shop has always been a favourite of mine for all things bath and body but I have never thought to venture into their cosmetics range. This week I have been testing out the new Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation, a light weight, pillow soft base for the skin. My shade is 'Malawi Beach 03' which is a perfect match for my summer tan. Overall there are five shades to choose from but admittedly this is quite limited. I found this foundation gives sheer coverage which is perfect if you want a minimal make up look, although it is probably buildable to your preference. The consistency doesn't weigh down the skin and it feels barely there.

The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the applicator, I much prefer to use a brush when it comes to foundation. I like to buff in my base rather than pat it on, just to ensure an even complexion. Needless to say I'm quite impressed with this product and I will definitely consider more of the make up pieces The Body Shop as to offer.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Blackcurrrant

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint - £3.99

For a while I had fallen out of love with painting my nails. I could never decide on a shade and I didn't have the time or patience to remove and reapply. I also decided to let my nails breathe as months of red varnish had stained them terribly.

Until now I had never dared to go dark with my nails, I always thought it would age the appearance of my hands or look a little too grunge for me. But, I then discovered Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Blackcurrant and I was pleasantly surprised. The colour is a very deep purple, almost black, buildable with every coat. It actually compliments my tanned skin really well and I think it suits shorter nails much better. The only disappointment is that it does chip rather easily despite an additional top coat and I have found I need to reapply after two days or so. This colour is really versatile with an edgy chicness to it and I can't get enough of it!

What's on your nails right now?

Scrub Love Mint Temptation

*PR sample

If you've been reading my blog for a while you'll know I'm a huge fan of coffee scrubs. Coffee scrubs work as an amazing skin exfoliant and cellulite buster. Recently I discovered Scrub Love, a UK company that makes organic, fair trade scrubs. Each pouch is packed with natural, ethically sourced ingredients that treat the skin.

I've been using the 'Mint Temptation' scrub twice a week to buff my body to rid dead skin, I also like to massage the product into areas that I want to tighten and firm. The consistency of this scrub is so much softer than scrubs I currently use, which can be a little harsh on the skin. This particular scrub contains Peppermint oil which gives a refreshing burst and I love how it leaves a cool tingle on my body. Application is a little messy but expected, although I have found this scrub doesn't stain the bath tub which is great!

Each scrub retails between £11.95-£13.95 and are available in original and coconut. If you haven't converted to coffee scrubs you must try Scrub Love, they don't use parabens or preservatives and are against animal testing :)

Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotion

Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotion - £6.99

On the hunt for a new heat protector for my hair, I came across Lee Stafford's Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotion. What instantly caught my attention was the key ingredient of coconut which, if you know me well enough - you'll know I absolutely love! This is a multipurpose product for the hair, not only does it protect your locks it conditions, strengthens and softens.

To apply I squeeze a small amount on to my palm then massage gently into my hair from the middle down to the ends. This product is to be used on towel dry hair before styling. I can't get enough of the scent of the lotion, it smells gorgeous and lingers through the day. My hair doesn't feel weighed down or sticky and instantly feels smoother. I will definitely be repurchasing this and would recommend it to anyone this summer.

Bourjois Rice Powder Java

Bourjois Rice Powder Java - £9.99

This is a rather overdue post - I had purchased this product quite a few months ago but have only recently been using it in my make up routine. This is the Bourjois Rice Powder Java, which had been released to celebrate the brand's 150th birthday. The powder itself is a cult product dating back to 1879 and is still popular amongst beauty junkies today!

I have been using this as a finish to my base to give a smooth, matte complexion. The powder is incredibly light on the skin and is pleasantly fragrant. It's transparent in colour and does not over power my skin tone. Although I have found this product doesn't dry out my skin, I can't guarantee it would set well on those with dry skin types. I also love the classic packaging, it would look so perfect on the vanity table of a french boudoir.
