GlossyBox: Summer Beauty Edit with Superdrug

SOLAIT Illuminating Facial Bronzing Cream
Generally I tan really well in the sun however my face still appears much paler compared to the rest of my body. I tend to avoid applying tan on my face since my skin is so prone to break outs but as this product is specifically for the face I am hoping it will sit lightly on my skin without feeling too greasy. I haven't yet been able to give it a go with all the fuss of my recent allergy but I am hoping to try it once my skin has fully cleared. The cream itself is really smooth and I can definitely smell the almond oil which makes a nice change from the typical biscuit scent.

My Skin Allergy: Methylisothiazolinone (MI) and Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI)

I was apprehensive about writing this post but I felt it was something I needed to address with the possibility of helping others who have encountered the same issue. I myself struggled to find in depth personal accounts from people with this allergy and so I thought I'd share my own story. Although this was a self-diagnosis, I did a great deal of research prior and have notified my doctor.

Methylisothiazolinone (MI) and Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) are chemicals found in cosmetics; toiletries, household solvents and paint, acting as preservative agents. In recent years concerns have risen over the impact both MI and MCI have on human skin and last year fuelled one of the biggest stories in skincare health. Warnings had been made of an increase of this new contact allergy and there has been a significant climb in the number of reported reactions worldwide. Although companies have been using these chemicals for years it seems that they have begun to use higher concentrations of the two which would explain the sudden epidemic of people contracting the allergy.

Over a month ago, I noticed the skin around my eye area and behind my ears had become really dry and flaky which is unusual considering I have oily skin. At the time I didn't give it much thought and figured it was just a dry spell for my skin until my eyelids and earlobes began to become incredibly sore and red. I then realised this must be a reaction to something I was using on a regular basis and after trial and error I figured out that it was the fault of my facial wipes which I use to remove eye make up and clean behind my ears. This was my first time using these particular wipes so I just assumed that my skin hadn't taken well to them and I needed to avoid them entirely. My skin began to clear a few days after the initial reaction but it wasn't long until the next. Despite using a different brand of facial wipes, my eyes were still irritated and had even began to swell. Every morning I would wake up with incredibly puffy, sore eyelids and the swelling was so intense that it looked like I had been in a fist fight. The skin under my eyes and around my lips was so red it could be mistaken for sunburn and it was so dry that it began to crack which caused a lot of discomfort. I couldn't believe that the reaction was getting worse despite my best efforts to avoid what I thought was to blame. It started to become clear that it wasn't down to the brands I was using, it must be a specific ingredient.

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil - £2.99

I must admit I'm quite lazy when it comes to maintaining my brows, I have a very basic grooming routine and I've recently wanted to make a little more effort. My mum had actually purchased this product for herself and I was rather impressed with the appearance of the brush so I decided to get one for myself to try out. This is the Master Shape brow pencil by Maybelline which is available in two shades, 'Dark Blonde' and 'Soft Brown' which is the closest to my natural brow colour. The wax formulated pencil is to be used to fill in the brows and the brush to tidy up and give the overall shape. I'm not entirely pleased with the performance of the pencil, due to it's incredibly soft, crayon like consistency it isn't exactly durable and needs re-sharpening regularly. I also didn't find that the pigmentation was anything worth commenting on, I do however really like the brush and I will continue to use it in my everyday routine.

Lee Stafford Sun Kissed Lightening Spray

Lee Stafford Sun Kissed Lightening Spray - £7.99

I tend to get bored with my hair rather quickly and with it being naturally dark it's not very straight forward when it comes to colouring. For two years or so I bleached my hair regularly to lighten it all over, but this came with the consequence of brassy tones, dark roots and of course long term damage. After endless attempts I came to the decision to stop and let my hair grow out it's chemically enhanced colour and to accept it's natural appearance..but with the growing popularity of ombre and balayage, I couldn't resist jumping on the bandwagon.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent - £47.00*

Once again, the fragrance of the Summer has returned and this time I have a bottle to claim my own. Bronze Goddess is a collection by Estee Lauder that is relaunched each year for a limited time over the Spring/Summer period. The Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent in particular seems to be the holy grail for most beauty gurus and I have noticed it sells out ridiculously fast both in store and online so I knew I needed to get it ASAP. Lucky for me my birthday is a week away and this launch couldn't have come at a more convenient time. My mum kindly purchased this for me as an early gift and even she has fallen in love with it herself..which does however mean we will surely be fighting over it.

This is a stunning fragrance that is quite literally Summer in a bottle. I instantly think of warm sunsets on the beach and fresh tropic air with every spray. Warm notes of Bergamot, Sandalwood and mandarin are complimented by cooler notes of Tiare Flower, Jasmine and Vanilla. The distinctive scent of Coconut is what caught my attention most of all, if you know me well you'll know I adore anything Coconut. The product is light on the skin but lingers throughout the day and is most certainly recognisable as it differs from any fragrance I have ever known. I'd highly recommend anyone to buy Bronze Goddess, it smells gorgeous and the bottle alone looks beautiful. Better yet you get a generous 100ml for under £50 which we all know is unheard of when it comes to fragrances!

LUSH Sakura Bath Bomb

LUSH Sakura Bath Bomb - £3.25

This has got to be my favourite Lush bath bomb EVER, I remember falling in love with it years ago when I was practically obsessed with Lush in my teens. Strangely enough it hadn't occurred to me that it had actually disappeared from the shelf, probably due to my distraction over other products, but on my last visit I had a moment of reminiscence when I spotted a delightful pile of Sakura! Sakura has a beautiful scent of Jasmine which instantly pleases me, it fills the room with a lovely floral aroma with a blend of orange flower, lemon oil and Mimosa. The inspiration behind this bath bomb is Japanese Cherry Blossom which is a significant indication of the arrival of Spring. My mood is uplifted and I feel ever so refreshed whenever I use Sakura, my only disappointment is that I only bought the one when really I need about ten!
