Empties of the Month

(Left to Right)

ORGANIX Renewing Morroccan Argan Oil Weightless Reviving Dry Oil
I discovered this hair range back in the Summer and instantly fell in love with it but as the products aren't exactly purse friendly I don't tend to purchase from there at all any more. This dry oil has lasted me over half a year, which I think is extremely good considering this is only a 118ml bottle. It smells absolutely heavenly and leaves my hair shiny, soft and free from tangles. I like to apply this on damp hair before styling although I did occasionally use it on dry hair to give it life when looking dull.

ELEMIS FRESH SKIN Skin Glow Exfoliator
This was a small sample I got in last months' GlossyBox and already I seem to have used it up! It's the perfect size for travel so I have been taking it with me on weekend stays at the boys house to avoiding bulking up my bag. The product has a sweet fruity scent to it and has a great consistency of Jojoba beads that give my skin a deep scrub. It still doesn't compare to my favourite 7 Day Scrub by Clinique so I doubt I will purchase the full sized product.

MILK_SHAKE Conditioning Whipped Cream
This product has only lasted me around 2 months simply because I LOVE it so much and maybe went a little OTT when using it. The consistency is literally like whipped cream and smells like delicious cream soda, it's just so incredibly yummy. This is a conditioning treatment for the hair with no need for rinsing, I have been applying it to damp hair before styling and my hair always feels much smoother and tangle free after each use. I'm not too sure what stores stock the Milk_Shake hair range but I did manage to find it on gorgeousshop.co.uk where you can currently purchase this particular product for £12.57*.

DERMALOGICA Clean Start Welcome Matte SPF15 Moisturiser
I've got this particular moisturiser twice during my GlossyBox subscription and it's one that I've really benefited from and have enjoyed using. It's light on the skin and has a pleasantly fresh zesty fragrance, I usually use it in the mornings as a base for my make up as it gives my skin a matte finish which is essential for me and my oily skin. If the product was a little more affordable I definitely would invest in the full sized bottle as I don't often come across moisturisers that give me such a long lasting matte, shine free face.

SOAP & GLORY 'Calm One Calm All' and 'The Scrub Of Your Life'
I received these two little beauties as Christmas presents along with the Soap & Glory 'The Righteous Butter' body moisturiser. I have not yet purchased from the brand before so this was my first experience and I was quite impressed. Both products have the original, distinct Soap & Glory fragrance which is very much like a sweet/floral perfume and super feminine. 'Calm One Calm All' is a relaxing bath soak, ideal for a night in of pamper, it creates wonderful bubbles and leaves skin feeling really soft. 'The Scrub Of Your Life' is a really effective body exfoliator with the perfect consistency, not too rough and not too gentle. It's great for giving your body a good buff in the shower and the scent remains on the skin for hours after.

The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner

The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner - £8.00

With my new found respect for facial toners I have been trying and testing different brands as I am keen to find 'the one' for my skin. Since the age of about fifteen, I have been a long time fan of the Vitamin E range at The Body Shop but have somewhat neglected  it over recent years. I especially like the Vitamin E Night Cream and so I wanted to give the Hydrating Toner a go to see whether it gave just as good results.

All products from the range have a lovely, delicate fragrance and this toner has been a delight to use. It has a light consistency and is gentle on the skin giving my face a fresh moisture boost every time. Used on a cotton pad, this product takes away all excess dirt and make up left over after cleansing, leaving my skin feeling smooth and soft. The Body Shop has become my go to for skin care since recently discovering a lot of my regular skin products belong to brands who test on animals which I find heartbreaking.

After reading a few other reviews I would probably say this toner would suit all skin types but particularly those with dry or sensitive skin. I have thoroughly enjoyed using this product however I'm not so sure it has entirely managed my problematic skin as I have broken out terribly in the past week and my blemishes don't appear to have been reduced as much as I'd expect. I will continue using this daily although I'm still open to trying out other toners.

GlossyBox: Valentine's Day

MICABELLA COSMETICS Mineral Eye Shadow
As much as I like mineral eye shadows they are impractical as they tend to make quite a mess and often leave fall out on the face. This is shade 'Intelligence' a warm, shimmery bronze/gold which I love! It looks beautiful on the lids, blends really well and could work with a smoky eye. I only really ever wear neutral or deep metallic shades on my eyes and I'm so pleased this little gem was in my box this month. I will probably use this occasionally as I prefer to use shadow palettes day to day.

ANATOMINCALS You Need A Blooming Shower!
Anatomicals is a brand I very much dread to find in my beauty boxes so at first I wasn't exactly happy to see this shower gel. As much as I dislike Rose scented toiletries the scent of this product is quite subtle and pleasant and I have been using this regularly. It creates a nice lather but overall it is just your ordinary shower gel so there's nothing extra special about it.

SASSOON SALON Sassoon Professional Spray Shine
I'm not too fussed when it comes to shine spray hair products as I think my hair is generally quite shiny after every wash. This is a nifty sized product, ideal for travel or keeping in your handbag for when your out and about. Honestly I haven't really seen much difference when using this spray and it's not something I would recommend to invest in. The product is lovely and light on the hair but the scent is extremely overwhelming and unpleasant when applied. It has a strong chemical like smell to it  and although it does fade in time, it's really off putting and doesn't make you feel like you're doing anything good for your hair. The only benefit this product gives is UV protection so could be useful on holiday but overall this spray hasn't given the shine and softness it promised.

MEMEME COSMETICS FatCat Lengthening Mascara
I have not yet purchased anything from the MeMeMe range so this was my first experience with a product from the brand. This is a lengthening mascara however I would say it's pretty average and isn't what I hoped it would be. Although my lashes were defined they didn't appear much fuller and the length barely increased so I'm really surprised that this mascara retails at £7.99 when it gives such basic results. The brush of the product was the only positive factor, it's big and chunky just how I like it.

MINERS COSMETICS Lip Colour
This is really NOT my colour at all! I'm a little disappointed that this lipstick wasn't in a colour that suits me well, 'Dreamer' can only be described as a plum like shade with an intense pearly shimmer which completely put me off since I much prefer matte lipsticks. This lipstick really ages me, it's in no way flattering and I think this particular shade would suit the 'older woman'. It is a shame because the product does sit well on the lips without drying, the colour itself was just not for me.

This months' GlossyBox was a little disappointing, so much so my lollipop was literally broken hearted!

Hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day!

Mini Beauty Bargain Haul

These items are beauty bargains I have collated over the last month or so and I thought I'd give you my honest verdict on them. I'm a true bargain hunter especially when it comes to beauty and I think with a good eye and a knack for rummaging you can all find some of the amazing beauty reductions that are out there yourselves!

Nails Inc. Colour Collection - £33.00 £12.99

I chose this particular Nails Inc. trio because I was instantly drawn to the 'Sugar Bakers Court' polish which literally looks like yummy little cupcake sprinkles in a bottle. At first I thought it consisted of tiny coloured beads but it is in fact glitter in shades red, blue, green, white and gold. My finger tips look like they've been dipped in sparkly cake frosting when I wear this shade and I think it has taken first place in my glitter favourites. Although it is a pain to take off it's so so pretty it's worth it, best used on top of a white base coat. I love my nude shades and 'Bristol' is a gorgeous 'greige'/mocha shade which compliments my skin tone and last really well without chipping. This is a chic, simple colour to wear for everyday wear or would suit well on formal occasions  'Devonshire Street' literally looks like I'm wearing millions of stars on my nails, it's incredibly sparkly and glistens beautifully. The biggest problem with glitter based polishes is the difficulty removing them and as you can imagine this was very tedious to take off. It took three applications to build up an intense coat of the polish which made it rather thick and unfortunately it did melt off during a hot bath so I would probably use one coat on top of a colour base in future.

Nip+Fab Pistachio Sundae Dry Skin Fix Body Butter - £8.49 £3.99

I don't actually have an issue with dry skin and I have enough body butters to last me the year but this is just one that I couldn't ignore. I think it was Barbara  who mentioned this product a while back now and I have always wanted to try it as I love pistachio based lotions and creams. These Nip+Fab body butters are the same size and quality of the Body Shop ones and are a lot more purse friendly too, I managed to find this in TK Maxx for just £3.99. The product has an amazing green colour to it, has a deliciously nutty fragrance and consists of nourishing Avocado, Shea butter and fruit oils. This is great for applying after a hot bath or shower to give my skin intense moisture and goodness. It is super creamy and soft, almost good enough to eat!

Orly Nail Lacquer - £20.60 £4.99

Orly nail polishes are generally quite expensive but I think the RRP of this nail lacquer was a little over estimated and I would guess it was probably no more than £10 originally. Nevertheless I picked up this polish in shade 'Decoded', a deep blue/grey marl colour as I thought it would be more wearable than a basic charcoal black. The product applies well onto my nails and two coats gives an intense colour however I'm not terribly sure if I like it that much. This shade definitely needs to be worn with a tan so would most likely suit those with a more olive skin tone otherwise it may make your hands appear much cooler toned if you have paler skin. I found that this polish was durable and easy to remove.

This Works Sleep Balm - £12 ??

This was a little gem that my Mum found for me, again in TK Maxx, and aside from being super cute it's also really effective. Ever since I was young, Lavender has always helped me to fall asleep and with having a few restless nights recently this has really come into good use. I use this at bed time by applying it on my pulse points and sometimes I rub a little bit onto my pillow. The scent is very calming and not overpowering so I am able to relax and prepare for a good nights sleep. It can also be used on dry skin around the elbows, heels and cuticles but I prefer using it to help me snooze.

Aussie Dual Personality Hi-Hold + Hi Shine Hairspray - £3.89 £1

I didn't really make much effort to browse the January sales this year and admittedly this is probably the only reduced beauty item I bothered to purchase. I found this hairspray on the reduced shelf in Boots and thought I might as well take it since I have not tried an Aussie hairspray before and better yet it was only £1. This product has the unmistakable Aussie fragrance which I've always loved but unsurprisingly I found it to be ineffective for me personally. My hair is just too thick and heavy to feel the full benefits of hairspray and this is a continuous problem for me but regardless I have been using it to tame my hair as much as I possibly can.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser

The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser - £7.50

I've really taken to the Tea Tree range at The Body Shop as it has managed my troublesome spot prone skin, so of course I was intrigued when I had seen Dizzybrunette3 raving about this particular product in her 2012 favourites. This is the Tea Tree Pore Minimiser which targets blemished skin and promises to reduce the appearance of pores and leaves a matte finish. I'm such a fan of POREfessional by Benefit but since it is so costly it's not something I can regularly buy and so I have been on a search for a cheaper alternative.

This product has a light consistency and blends wonderfully into my skin, I have been using this as a base before applying my foundation. This isn't make up so doesn't give any coverage but it smooths the surface of my face leaving it matte and at the same time my skin feels treated by the key ingredient of Tea Tree. My face stays shine free all day, the appearance of my pores has definitely decreased and my foundation stays in place really well. I will definitely be repurchasing this product and it is now essential in my everyday make up routine!

Dove Nourishing Oil leave-in conditioning & care spray

Dove Nourishing Oil leave-in conditioning & care spray - £3.39 £2.25

On a recent browse around Boots I was stopped in my tracks when I spotted this golden beauty on the shelf. This is a new product from Dove, a nourishing oil conditioning spray which guarantees to smooth and treat your locks instantly. Currently 1/3 off in-store*  I thought I'd grab it quick and give it ago since my trusty Organix Moroccan Weightless Reviving Dry Oil is almost finished and for the price and size of the product I definitely think that it is great value for money! This light, delicate spray can be applied onto damp or dry hair and is absorbed incredibly fast. Enriched with Almond, Argan and Coconut oils this conditioning spray has left my hair feeling so soft and touchable after every use and it smells really gorgeous. I think this is a great product to lead me into to Spring time, it's a refreshing treat for my hair and doesn't weigh it down with any residue.

This product is sure to last me well and I would highly recommend to give it a try yourself as it suits all hair types. It's not sticky and doesn't leave a greasy texture so go ahead and give your hair some LOVE.

This Works: Fresh Skin

This Works: Fresh Skin - £17.00 £7.99

As you may remember me mentioning, I have come to appreciate skin toners much more recently and when I came across this particular one from This Works in TK Maxx I instantly wanted to give it a try. I purchased the product at nearly £10 less than it's original retail price so I considered it to be a great bargain beauty find. This is actually my first experience with a This Works product, I have heard good reviews about beauty and skin care items from the brand but have never come across it in stores until now. The toner itself is alcohol-free and doesn't contain any GM ingredients in order to maintain healthy skin. Malachite, Oak Bark, Bergamot and Neroli are the key ingredients but it must be said that the Oak Bark dominates the fragrance of the product which I'm a little thrown off by. The toner is light and refreshing on the face and can either be applied by directly spraying on to the skin or used with cotton pads.

Although I haven't been using this for too long now I have noticed slight improvements especially with my blemishes which have appeared to have reduced. The big concern I have is that each time I have used this fresh skin toner my skin feels a little itchy and irritated, although less every time, it may be a reaction to one of the ingredients found within the product or may just be the quality of the product as the box does state it should be used within a 6 month period and there's no way of knowing how long it has been sat on the shelf.

Despite the minor set back of the irritation issue I think I may occasionally use this toner but it definitely isn't my 'go to' skin toning product however I think this would possibly be quite nice to use in the Summer when my skin needs an instant cooling spritz. I am rather disappointed that this toner didn't leave me 100% satisfied but I would still like to try other This Works products in future, any recommendations?
