VO5 Give Me Texture Product Trial

Last month I received an email asking if I wish to participate in a product trial courtesy of Cosmopolitan magazine and VO5. Of course I agreed and within a couple of weeks I received my trial which consisted of a full sized shampoo, conditioner and two styling products. I was instructed to use each of these products over a three week period and here is my verdict...

(Left to Right) VO5 Give Me Texture Tousled Style Spray, VO5 Give Me Texture Shampoo & Conditioner and VO5 Give Me Texture Instant Oomph Powder

VO5 Give Me Texture shampoo and regular conditioner

For the first week of the trial I had to wash my hair with the VO5 shampoo along with my regular choice of conditioner. The shampoo lathers extremely well into my locks, I can't quite figure out the fragrance of the product but it does have a fresh and natural scent. This shampoo claims to give 'luscious, tousled hair' and quite right it does! My hair is naturally wavy although I did notice an added bounce and definition to the waves of my hair which I wouldn't have expected from the shampoo alone.

Regular shampoo and VO5 Give Me Texture conditioner

This week I had been using my regular shampoo with the VO5 conditioner. The fragrance of the conditioner is very much the same as the shampoo although a little more subtle. The product has a creamy consistency but isn't too heavy on the hair and doesn't leave behind any residue. After rinsing, my hair was left tangle free and feeling ultra soft however it didn't give the same tousled result as the shampoo had given so I did find myself opting for other products to give my hair the texture I desired.

VO5 Give Me Texture shampoo & conditioner together

Finally by week three I had the chance to use both the VO5 shampoo and conditioner together and after every wash this week I was left with soft, shiny and knot free waves. Each product gave it's own unique input into leaving my hair looking healthy and defined so I definitely would recommend giving this range a try. Since I have natural thick waves I really couldn't say whether these products would work for those of you with straight or fine hair.

Throughout the trial I regularly used the two styling products, the tousled style spray and the 'Oomph' powder. I wasn't particularly impressed with these two personally, I found they just didn't work well with my thick and heavy barnet. The powder is very delicate, with a snowy like appearance, which you rub between your finger tips then into the hair to give volume but with my hair being so thick it would take a lot to make any sort of difference and when it comes to styling I like to use as little product as I possibly can. The spray gave an average result it was OK but not something I would purchase for myself in future. When scrunched into the hair, the spray did give a little definition but it wasn't long lasting and too much product would just dry into the hair and make it hard.

Overall I was happy to have taken part in this trial and overall I think the VO5 Give Me Texture shampoo and conditioner gave the most effective results out of the four products. I'm not exactly certain whether I will buy this range out of preference, although I was pleased with the outcome I wasn't greatly keen on the scent of the products and for me my choice of haircare is highly influenced by the fragrance. The styling products would suit finer, lighter hair but that is only my opinion I can't guarantee it.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash - £5.00

With my love for Tea Tree god knows why I hadn't thought to try the Tea Tree range found at The Body Shop sooner! One of my favourite skin care products is Dr Bronner's Magic Liquid  Soap with Tea Tree and I have been looking out for a slightly cheaper alternative and so I picked up this facial wash for a nifty price of £5. This product claims to remove impurities from blemish prone skin, leaving it thoroughly cleansed and treated. The consistency of the product is light and leaves a matte feeling on the face once rinsed. I have been using this facial wash morning and night to refresh my face and it definitely rids my skin of any excess oil and shine. Results didn't show straight away for me, it took a few days for me to notice any improvement with my blemishes but my skin does look so much more clearer especially since having recently broken out and I'm certain I will be repurchasing this product from now on.

I'm  interested to try more products from this range especially the facial exfoliating pads and the blemish gel. Have you tried this range at all? I'd love to know what you recommend.

A Christmas Message...

Hello Beauties,

With the official end of Christmas Day approaching fast I wanted to say a short, sweet message to you all...better late than never. I hope every one of you had a very merry Christmas this year with your loved ones and I'm sure some of you managed to get spoilt with some wonderful beauty treats too. I'd like to of course say a thank you to my followers and to anyone who regularly reads my blog, I really appreciate all your lovely feedback. I must apologise for the lack of posts so far this month but I've just been rather distracted by all the Christmas hype and what not and I promise there are plenty more to come in the next few weeks :)

Now I think it's time to get some beauty sleep as I'm sure it's fair to say we've all eaten ridiculously today and have finally given up on the naff Christmas telly.

GlossyBox: Festive Celebrations

Last year, the December GlossyBox was fabulous so I was very excited for this year's to arrive at my door step. The 'Festive Celebrations' silver box has been filled with some gorgeous products which have all been so lovely to try and have even become true favourites!

RITUALS Magic Touch

In last year's December box I received the Rituals foaming shower gel in the same scent of 'Cherry Blossom' which is a really subtle and delightful fragrance. This body cream consists of Rice Milk which leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft, nourished and smelling so heavenly. The consistency of the product is light and melts instantly into the skin, it's perfect for applying after a hot bath or shower. I'd definitely recommend this particular body cream, I've really fallen for it and I am trying my best to use it sparingly so it lasts me well into the new year.

SECHE Nail Lacquer

I've wanted a nail varnish shade like this for a while now and at last I have one to own. I received shade 'Elegant' which is a copper/bronze colour that seems to wear well this season. It's a metallic varnish however it isn't overly shiny which I much prefer, I think polishes look much better when they have a more matte finish. Two coats gives a gorgeous warm colour to the nails and it's rather durable, so no dreaded chips.

MILK_SHAKE Conditioning Whipped Cream

This product has become a real favourite of mine and I'm not exaggerating when I say it is delicious! It has a yummy scent which I can only describe as  the creamiest of cream sodas, it smells good enough to eat and even looks exactly like whipped cream. This is a conditioning product which is applied onto wet hair with no need to rinse, just style as normal. My hair has noticeably felt much softer and appears in better condition after every use, I may be using this a little too often so I'm a little worried that it won't be lasting me far into the new year but I think I will definitely consider purchasing it in future.

SLEEK MAKEUP i-Divine True

A beautiful  eye shadow palette with twelve warm earthy and metallic tones that are perfectly suited for my eye colour. I have been enjoying this product so much this month I'm beginning to think it may be better than my Urban Decay 'Naked' palette which has been a long time love of mine! At only £7.99 this is a great beauty bargain and is ideal for experimenting with different tones to create both natural and smoky eye looks.  These mineral based shadows seem to sit well onto the lids without any need of a primer and blend extremely well together. My favourite of the twelve colours so far would have to be 'Taupe', 'Bark', 'Mineral Earth' and 'Regal'. I'd really like to try more shadow palettes from Sleek as I've been so overly impressed with this one.

ANATOMICALS 'what a complete and utter glosser'

As I'm sure I've said many times before I'm not overly keen on using lip gloss on my lips, they're always too sticky and are especially a nightmare to wear on a windy day when your hair sticks to your lips and all that nonsense. This gloss has a cheeky scent of strawberry milkshake and gives a sweet, colourless glaze over the lips. I can't say I'll make great use of this product although it could make a good stocking filler.

I don't tend to wear blusher in the Winter so I'll be saving this for the sunny days of Spring. This blush, in shade 'Glossy Rosewood', is a product of GlossyBox included in this month's box as a little bonus treat for Christmas. The product appears to be easily build-able to create a rosy effect for your cheeks to your preference, it's also pocket sized which is great for slipping into a travel bag.

SheSaidBeauty December Box

I'm really gutted that this is the last box SheSaidBeauty will be distributing to subscribers as they have come to the decision to end their monthly Beauty Box service. Instead the focus will be the SheSaidBeauty website itself to make it the UK's leading social network for beauty.

Considering that this is the December and final edition I did expect the box to have a more special and festive touch to it but nevertheless I was happy with what I received...

BOURJOIS Magic Nail Polish Remover

I've seen this product mentioned by all my favourite beauty bloggers and have heard good feedback but still to this day I have not got round to buying it for myself. Retailed at £4.99 I've always thought that was a little pricey considering you can get just as good results from cotton wool and an inexpensive polish remover for half the price. I was pleased to see that this is a full sized sample so should last me a good while, trusting that it doesn't dry out. I couldn't ignore the strong, potent fragrance of the product when opening it, it's quite in your face and I have found myself having to use it at a distance. The scent is described as red fruit and vanilla which I did notice however it doesn't come across straight away. My nails feel really nourished and cared for once I have used the product and nearly all of my polish was removed in a matter of seconds. I may contemplate purchasing this in future but most likely if it was on offer.

ORICO Superico Vitamin Rich Face Oil

My skin has really been misbehaving this Winter, it looks so lifeless and has had a few dry spells. This vitamin rich face oil promises to rehydrate skin straight away with essences of Jojoba, Patchouli, Bergamot and Lavender. There weren't any directions on how to apply the product but I have been applying it to the face after a hot bath just before bed for a little skin pampering. It appears to be a dry oil as it doesn't grease my face and sinks in well into the skin.

DR DUVE Anti Ageing + Firming eye cream

At 22 years of age I can't say I have any issues with puffy eyes or wrinkles and touch wood I won't any time soon. I have been using this eye cream since there's no reason it should go to waste, it has a pleasant scent and doesn't sit heavy on the skin.

TECHNIC Nail Varnish in Tawny Port

I'm always welcome to try a new nail varnish and Technic is a brand I'm not yet aware of. 'Tawny Port' is a deep purple shade better suited to wear this season so I have been wearing it for the past couple of days and have really taken to it, although it does make my hands look a little on the pale side. The varnish appears to be durable and two coats give a perfect result. This is a full sized sample which regularly retails at £1.25, a great bargain!

DR DUVE Skin Boosting Cream

This particular face cream has been developed for sensitive skin aiming to firm, rejuvenate and soothe. The cream is gentle and has a similar scent to the eye cream and feels lovely on my face however it doesn't leave a matte finish which doesn't suit well with my oily skin. A full sized tub will set you back a ridiculous £129.00 and I'm certainly not prepared to invest in to it as there are plenty other affordable products that give just as good results.

AMIE Spring Clean Cooling Clay Mask

I received this face mask in my September SheSaidBeauty box  and thoroughly enjoyed it. This clay mask refreshes and cleanses the skin an has a cooling and calming scent of peppermint. After 10 minutes my skin feels much softer and cared for and I would suggest to use once a week to avoid drying out the skin.

JING Whole Leaf Teabags

When it comes to tea I've got to have a good old standard cuppa! I'm not keen on flavoured teas but I really wish that I was since there's so much variety out there. Although I like the smell of brewing Earl Grey I can't say I like the taste so unfortunately I won't use these.

Santa Baby...

Tis Christmas time beautiful people! December came incredibly quick and this whole year in general has flown by and since we're all getting into a festive mood I thought I'd pick five products that I wouldn't at all mind finding under my Christmas tree.

Liz Earle Skincare Starter Gift Set (17.50) Viktor & Rolf Eau de Parfum (price varies) The Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Bath Crystals (£12.00) Clarisonic Mia (price varies) Benefit The POREfessional (£23.50*)

As a beauty blogger I'm a little embarrassed to have not yet had any form of Liz Earle product in my hands and with every beauty guru raving about the wonder that is the Cleanse and Polish, I thought this Skin Care Starter Gift Set would be perfect for a Liz Earle virgin like myself. I have a fair few perfumes in mind that I would love get this Christmas and Flowerbomb by Viktor &Rolf is one that I have been lusting over for months! Ginger is such a festive scent and at the moment I've taken to the Ginger Sparkle collection, part of the seasonal range at The Body Shop and these bath crystals would be so indulgent in a hot bath this Winter. Although I'm a bit hesitant about investing in the Clarisonic I was a little reassured to see that there is a brush head available for sensitive skin and with my skin so prone to breakouts I think this is ideal. Benefits POREfessional is definitely the best primer I have used and is kind to my oily complexion...there's always space in my make up bag for another!

Let me know what you've wished for this Christmas, I'd love for you to share some ideas and I hope you're all having a lovely month. Have you been naughty or nice this year?

Enamoured: 80 Years of Revlon

On Friday evening I visited the Enamoured: 80 Years of Revlon exhibition held at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden. The exhibition had been created to celebrate 80 years of Revlon as an iconic beauty brand and to portray the story behind its incredible success over eight decades. Showcasing exclusive Revlon artefacts the exhibition explored the development of the brand through the years with advertisements and products dating back to the 1930's.

'Architecture Of An Empire' Founder Charles Revson
Some of Revlon's earliest print campaigns | 'Revlon Red', 1988
'Drip Dresses' 'Lips & Tips'
'Fire and Ice' campaign, 1952 | Revlon nail enamels
Rita Ora, a Revlon client 'Cherry'

A history lesson like no other, the exhibition really emphasised the influence Revlon had on women since it was discovered in 1932 by Charles Revson. It was so interesting to see that the glamorous and inspiring Audrey Hepburn was once a face of the brand and the story behind the oh so famous 'Red Sole' of Christian Louboutin was really unexpected.

Unique art installations gave an added edge to the showcase from an acrylic nail disco ball to an over sized varnish bottle made up of over 2,000 Revlon polishes although my favourite had to be 'Baton Rouge' (below) made of hundreds of resin lipsticks.

''Baton Rouge'

Unfortunately the exhibition only ran over four days, ending today, so if you were lucky enough to visit it this weekend I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
